Vegas Golden Knights History

The Vegas Golden Knights were created in 2016 when the NHL awarded the franchise to billionaire businessman Bill Foley, a graduate of West Point Military Academy and the Maloof Family, the founders of the Palms Casino Resort. The team opened their first NHL campaign in 2017-2018 season becoming the first major professional sports franchise to compete in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights play within the Pacific Division of the Western Conference against rivals like Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and the Arizona Coyotes.

The first season for the Golden Knights was impressive. Sin City adhered to the team like glue and the Golden Knights played in the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season. They were led by outstanding play from several players who had been tossed aside by other teams in the NHL and were considered a team of misfits by the league. Gold was added to the name in reference to the precious metal which Nevada is the number one state in the country for production. After another legal battle with the United States Army, the name Golden Knights was included in a trademark coexistence agreement with the exhibition sky diving team of West Point Military Academy. The team did not include Las Vegas and only Vegas in the name because locals refer to Sin City simply as Vegas.

Logo and Colors

The logo for the Vegas Golden Knights combines a barbute helmet with a black and gold seal along with a V-shaped opening. The second logo consists of crossing swords placed behind a red star that is to symbolize the star on the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign.

Team colors for the Vegas Golden Knights include steel gray, gold, red, and black. The colors symbolize strength and durability, power and intensity, and the Vegas skyline and Red Rock Canyon.

Mascot

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — There is an infamous list of people commonly called 'Nevada's Black Book' and the Nevada Gaming Control Board says they are no longer welcomed in any gaming establishment in the state.

Attorney Doug Crawford once represented someone who found themselves on the list.

'I had the great honor of representing a client who was in the black book,' said Crawford, who declined to real the person's name.

'It was reserved for members of La Cosa Nostra, the mafia, the boys,' explained Crawford.

The Gaming Control Board also publishes a most wanted list for those who are suspected of cheating.
